Trivia: The nation's first scheduled steam railroad began in New Castle in 1831. Opening in 1831, the New Castle-Frenchtown Railroad company originally used horses as locomotives. A year later, the company switched to steam locomotives. The steam locomotive, "Delaware", was one of the only trains that ran on the tracks.
